Offseason Storage Tip - Oil Change

Prior to offseason storage is an ideal time to perform motor oil and lower unit lube changes, especially if you only do one service per season.  Combustion byproducts can accumulate in motor oil and can contribute to degradation of the oil's additive packages, reducing thier effectiveness, especially those blended into oil to help prevent internal corrosion.  Water, which may have leaked into the lower unit during use, could cause internal corrosion on the gears and bearings, and it can freeze in colder climate.  Changing the oil and lubes before storage now will inhibit potential corrosion issues.  Plus, if you find any issues, such as water in the lower unit, you can schedule repairs for the slower time of the year.  And, always be sure to replace the drain washers.
